U13’s welcome Kenfig Hill to their 2nd home game played on the 4G pitch in Coity.
Kenfig Hill started off the game at 100 miles an hour, flying into the tackle with some big hits in the forwards and in midfield. However it was the Ath who got on the score sheet first after a couple of quick infringements and a kick to the corner. From the resultant line out a planned move led to a good drive by the forwards allowing Charlie Rees to dive over the line from the back of a ruck. Kenfig Hill soon got back into it with a couple of quick back to back scores putting them into the lead after some strong running out wide. The next 10mins turned into a strong arm wrestle between both sides with neither getting on top. But then Kenfig scored back to back, as the half came to an end, to take a lead at the break 5-24.
The second half started with the Ath on the front foot and from a line out captain Harry Griffiths ran hard into the Kenfig Hill pack before offloading for Dan Honeyfield to flop over the line. Kenfig were soon back on the score sheet though with a try of their own before Charlie Rees slotted over a penalty in front of the posts after repeated infringements. The Ath crossed again, with another try by Dan Honeyfield, after a number of charges at the Kenfig Hill line. The score was converted by Charlie Rees meaning the gap was closed to 20-31. From the kick off Kenfig picked up the pace, putting repeated pressure on the Ath back line and scored another quick brace of tries to end the game clear winners 20-45.
The U13’s stuck at it and with the worry of a few injuries will head away for their next two games.
